  Students will all be receiving a pair of solar eclipse glasses at the end of the day, thanks to your South PTO. We will share information about the solar eclipse with students, as well as safety information. See more information below, and  feel free to watch this introductory video  to better understand what's going on! From the K-12 Director of Science: A solar eclipse will occur today, Monday, April 8th, and Massachusetts is in the path of the eclipse. Although Braintree will not view 100% coverage to see totality, it will have about 92% coverage at peak.  The eclipse will begin to be visible around 2:15pm, peak around 3:30pm, and end around 4:40pm.  This is exciting but it is also important to make sure everyone is  safely  viewing the eclipse if they choose to do so. Spring is in the air! It's nice to see everyone's warm weather spirit this week as we knock down the first round of MCAS testing.  (1.) With the return of sunshine and warm afternoons, it never hurts to remind middle schoolers of the rules.  Our Braintree Middle Schools' Dress Code is attached in PDF format and is also pasted at the bottom of this message . The schools respect the right of every family to make primary decisions about your child's attire, but we do need to maintain standards of safety, hygiene, respect, and a positive school atmosphere. We appreciate your support at home! We're watching the weather to start off this week, but for now we're moving ahead with our plans. South PTO  will meet on Tuesday, 3/14, at 7pm in the South Media Center. See attached agenda. Come by to get updates on recent fundraisers and school events, to plan spring fundraisers such as the April Calendar Raffle, and to discuss plans for Teacher Appreciation Week in early May. South's 8th Grade Science teachers are kicking off a new schoolwide project this month:  March Mammal Madness!  Learn about different species and make educated guesses about how they'll fare against one another. Last week, Students of the Term for term 3 were recognized by their teachers and classmates. Deserving students are nominated by their teachers in recognition for positive characteristics such as consistent effort, positive participation, respect for others, and contributions to the climate in the school or classroom. Every student is eligible to be nominated, and we applaud those who were recognized in term 3! With the seniors completing coursework at Braintree High and more and more siblings returning from college, we have had a few instances when food or drinks were delivered for students during the day. Food and drink are only permitted in the cafeteria during lunch or breakfast, and outside deliveries increase the risk of allergic reactions at school. If you want to treat your child and/or their friends to a tasty delight, please refrain until after school.
