Bulldog Bulletin - South Middle School

With the first full week back in school under our belts, and almost halfway through the second cycle of our rotating school schedule, it almost feels like we never had a summer vacation. Keep your eye out for extracurricular activities and clubs you may want to join! BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Next  Thursday, 9/18 , South will open our doors for  Back to School Night  from  6:30-8:00 PM . Parents, guardians, and all adult caregivers are invited to come to the school to meet your child(ren)'s teachers and learn about the classes and curriculum. Bulldog Bulletin - 9/16/2024

South's Back To School Night will be held this Thursday, 9/19, from 6:30-8:00pm.  Adult caregivers are invited to drop in any time that evening--"open house" style--to explore the school, meet your child's teachers, and learn about expectations for the year. Because every family has different obligations in the evenings, we set Back To School Night up as a drop-in format; teachers will not have a specific presentation or assigned time to talk with parents, but will be available to share their classroom curriculum & procedures and to answer any questions you might have. Come on by and get to know the people & places where your kid is spending so many waking hours!  Make sure you know your child's teachers!  PRO TIP: Take a picture of their schedule so you'll have the teachers' names & room numbers on your phone! There will be 2 optional meetings  before  Back-To-School-Night. Grade 8 Washington DC Trip Informational Night  - 6pm @ South Cafetori...

Bulldog Bulletin - 1/17/2023

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. It was nice to have an extra day to let the snow work itself out, without having to worry about be out in the predawn gloom! The holiday is observed on Dr. King's birthday, a good opportunity to remember that--although he is often idealized in the stories we tell--he was a son, a husband, a father, and a friend  first . From this humble man arose an inspiration to adopt nonviolent methods and appeal to people's  morality  in demanding a change, rather than using force. Dr. King shined a light on the unequal treatment of people of color and spoke about the dangers of inequality regardless of race. He saw the poor families across this country struggling to stay afloat and get ahead while others made decisions that would impact other folk but not themselves, and he insisted that our Founders wanted more for us as Americans. At South, we teach our students to develop a voice and a vision so they are ...

Let's see your creative Summer/Winter mash-ups! Thanks to South Student Council for keeping us all merry and bright this week. (2.) Thank you to all the families who have been plying the staff with treats this week! There was a long-standing tradition at South of students & their adult caregivers delivering baked goods to the Teachers Room all throughout the last week before the December Break. After a few years of pandemic-driven hiatus from communal food, it means so much to walk past the Teachers Room and hear the lively conversation and laughter of our Bulldog staff savoring the thoughtfulness of your gestures of appreciation. Please don't tell our cardiologists, dieticians, or significant others about the sheer quantity of sugar and complex carbohydrates, but thank you all! (3.) ...
