Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! All 8th grade Veterans Projects will be on display in the Media Center on Friday, 6/6, for the public to view and explore our students' research. If you're looking for an e...

Tuesday Woof - 6/7/2022

This will be the final week for Homework Club at South this school year. There will still be a late bus next week, so any students who need to stay after for make-up work, retakes, extra help, etc. can make arrangements to stay after with their teachers. Our 8th graders are excited to show off their Veterans Projects this Friday in the Gymnasium at South! Come learn about our local heroes and marvel at the immense work the students put in to interview their veterans and research the conflicts and historical periods in which they served. Open throughout the school day on 6/10, please check in at the Main Office. We are getting excited to welcome the 5th graders for Move Up activities on Thursday and Friday. In Digital Literacy classes, our current 6th graders prepared infographics to pass along "lessons learned": what to look forward to, how to avoid pitfalls, and other kernels of advice! You can still purchase tickets for the Spring Musical this weekend! Contact Ms. Proulx or...

Memorial Day Woof

Today, we were thrilled to invite back to Braintree's veterans and town dignitaries to South's Memorial Day Assembly. This is a long-standing tradition, pausing before the long weekend to reflect on the sacrifices that were made to secure our personal freedoms. The weather cooperated, and kudos to 8th grade Social Studies teachers Jim Joyce and Kyle O'Brien for coordinating this wonderful, inspiring, student-directed event. This week, steel beams started being placed for the South construction project. The area on the left behind the crane is going to be part of the cafeteria and stage area, and the area on the right with the lower roof is going to be the Library/Media Center. The small section of beams that jut out under the roofline on the right is a roof overhang in what will become the large, central courtyard. The construction is coming along quickly and looking great! Got a reader in your family? Or, want a little help inspiring someone to take up the habit? Check out...

Woof - 13 June 2019

Feedback from the early responses to the South Poll make it very clear that parents & guardians appreciate the updates in the Woof and miss it when I don’t send one… So, here it is!   We’ve got a busy final few days coming, so this is a good time to get a Woof into your in-boxes!   If you haven’t filled out this year’s South Poll yet, please take this opportunity to do so: https://forms.gle/tUVohn9SvnU6vJ7MA . Eighth grade students enjoyed the opportunity to show off their Veterans Projects this Thursday.   A number of local veterans came in to see the students’ hard work on display and to speak to kids about their research and interviews.   One gentleman remarked to me what how important it was to him, after the GIs returning from Vietnam faced so many personal attacks at home, to have young people asking about their stories and honoring the soldiers’ sacrifices.   We’re proud of their efforts! Friday, 6/14, will be the 8 th grade Science Fair,...
