South Middle - Midterm 1

Midterm was last Friday and teachers have spent the week reminding students about any missing work, hosting makeup sessions, correcting assignments, and reviewing retake & corrections policies with them.  As of today, all grades are up-to-date for midterm in Aspen.  Please log in and review your child(ren)'s grades with them. If anything is not where you expect it to be: The first conversation should be with your child. Help them to identify what went wrong and then to develop a plan to get back on track.  You can then reach out to the teacher for more information if you have questions or concerns. It never hurts to let the teacher know if you've made a plan with your child to bring their grade up. It will help a teacher to be on the lookout for improvement, or possibly to remind your child if they're supposed to stay after school with them! If you have concerns over several classes or overall, you may want to contact your child's Guidance Counselor. They can gather...

She will be pushing her newborn daughter in the roadrace, and these 2 ladies are dedicating their run & all proceeds to Marisa's Mission. Cash/check donations can be brought to homeroom tomorrow or straight to Mrs. Lavey at her reception desk in the Front Office, or you can donate online here:  Mrs. Lavey's Falmouth Road Race-Marisa's Mission (2.) Students can still schedule afterschool help with a teacher but will need to arrange for a ride home.  (3.)  You can still purchase tickets to see the Spring Musical,  Newsies!   Friday night is completel...

Wednesday Woof from South Bulldogs!

Springtime in a middle school is an exciting period full of field trips & culminating projects. Between celebrations & state testing, student schedules get tinkered with and tweaked on a seemingly nonstop basis. Although the end of the school year is looming in everyone's mind--and especially on the sunny, hot days-- we still have over 10% of the school year left.  Please make every effort to arrive at school on time in the morning  by 8:02 , to schedule appointments outside of school hours, and to avoid early dismissals from school. Beyond teachers' academic goals for their classes and the social growth events that make lifelong memories for our kids, it reinforces to good habits to be on time and present at school throughout the day.  If you do have to report an absence ,  please email the school nurses or call the Main Office to let us know.  A medical note is required for an absence to be excused and a provider's office will give you that at the time...

Bulldog Bulletin - Week of April 1st

There will be no Homework Lab today or afterschool help, due to our April Staff Meeting. Play rehearsal will go on as scheduled, and we return to the regular afterschool schedule tomorrow. April's PTO meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/11, starting at 7pm in the South Media Center. (Please note: this is a change from the previously posted date.) Agenda will be sent next week. The April Calendar raffle is underway! Students can continue to sell tickets and submit them along with payment to the Main Office or your homeroom teacher. The sooner you get tickets into the raffle, the more chances you'll have to win! MCAS testing starts this week and continues for the next 2 months. See full schedule: 8th grade parents who missed the Informational Night at Braintree High a few weeks ago: the slideshow is linked here. Term 3 ends this Friday, 4/5 . Make sure all work is up to date and let your teachers know if anything doesn't appear to line up in Aspen. Report cards will be sent h...

Bulldog Bulletin - South Cinco

Shana Tova Umetuka  to our Bulldogs celebrating Rosh Hashanah this weekend!  (1.) AFTERSCHOOL HELP Late Bus The Late Bus will start at South tomorrow. Students who currently take a bus (you'll need a bus pass to board the late bus) are eligible to take one of the late buses that will arrive between 3:15-3:30, Monday through Thursday. It may not be your typical bus & it won't bring you to your regular bus stop, but you'll tell the driver your home address (or regular stop) and they will bring you within close distance to your house.  Homework Lab Every afternoon, Monday through Thursday, students are welcome to stay in the Homework Lab in South's Media Center. HW Lab is staffed by South paraprofessionals, so it's a great opportunity to get a little extra help; ask any questions you may have; or simply have a quiet, supervised space to do some homework before heading home. Students do  not  need to sign up in advance and they can drop in anytime by 2:35pm. Stu...

Wednesday Woof from the South Bulldogs

SAFETY DRILL South Middle School conducted a Lockdown Drill this morning, in accordance with the Braintree Public Schools’ districtwide procedures for lockdowns and other security measures. These drills are carried out in order to practice our procedures for keeping the students and staff safe and secure in the event of a dangerous incident at school. South’s staff introduces security procedures with all students at the beginning of each school year, and then we review these procedures periodically so that students will know what to do in the event of a security announcement. Today’s drill lasted approximately 10 minutes while school staff and Braintree Police checked that the classrooms and school facility were secure. After that time, classrooms were unlocked and we returned to the regular schedule.   If you have any questions or concerns relating to this drill, please do not hesitate to contact the school at (781) 380-0160. We remain ever grateful for the support of the Braintr...
