Welcome back - South Cinco

We were happy to have everyone back at South this morning, hopefully, refreshed--and germ-free--after a week away! (1.) Student report cards were due back, signed by a parent or guardian, before the break. Please send that in if you haven't already done so.  This month, South Middle School also received  our  report card! The state's  school  &  district report cards  are available for review on the DESE website. There is a link for families' convenience on the  South website , under the  About Us  section. Please let me know if you have any questions about our report card, or would like to discuss further. (2.) There is still time to  donate to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital  to support childhood cancer research, as well as children with cancer and their families. This is an annual fundraiser organized by Ms. Mac and supported by South's Student Council for this noble cause. Everyone's support is greatly appreciat...

Wednesday Woof from South Bulldogs!

Springtime in a middle school is an exciting period full of field trips & culminating projects. Between celebrations & state testing, student schedules get tinkered with and tweaked on a seemingly nonstop basis. Although the end of the school year is looming in everyone's mind--and especially on the sunny, hot days-- we still have over 10% of the school year left.  Please make every effort to arrive at school on time in the morning  by 8:02 , to schedule appointments outside of school hours, and to avoid early dismissals from school. Beyond teachers' academic goals for their classes and the social growth events that make lifelong memories for our kids, it reinforces to good habits to be on time and present at school throughout the day.  If you do have to report an absence ,  please email the school nurses or call the Main Office to let us know.  A medical note is required for an absence to be excused and a provider's office will give you that at the time...

Wednesday Woof from the South Bulldogs

SAFETY DRILL South Middle School conducted a Lockdown Drill this morning, in accordance with the Braintree Public Schools’ districtwide procedures for lockdowns and other security measures. These drills are carried out in order to practice our procedures for keeping the students and staff safe and secure in the event of a dangerous incident at school. South’s staff introduces security procedures with all students at the beginning of each school year, and then we review these procedures periodically so that students will know what to do in the event of a security announcement. Today’s drill lasted approximately 10 minutes while school staff and Braintree Police checked that the classrooms and school facility were secure. After that time, classrooms were unlocked and we returned to the regular schedule.   If you have any questions or concerns relating to this drill, please do not hesitate to contact the school at (781) 380-0160. We remain ever grateful for the support of the Braintr...

Wellness Wednesday - 3/23

Did you know? Monday, 3/21, was the 120th day of school. We are ⅔ of the way through this school year, and 120 days smarter! On the 100th day of school–which also happened to fall on Valentine’s Day this year–I took some time to look at our attendance stats so far this year.  As of the 100th day: The majority of South students had missed less than 3 days of school 2 out of 5 Bulldogs had only missed 1 DAY or have perfect attendance 25% of South students had not missed a single school day this year!  As of Monday–the 120th school day– 1 in 5 students still has perfect attendance this school year! These statistics do not count absences due to COVID infection/quarantine, or any excused by a medical note. If you have unexcused absences, you can send a doctor’s note to your homeroom teacher or your doctor’s office can fax it to our school nurses at 781-356-0657. Notes from a parent/guardian/caregiver let us know that the absence is authorized (not truant) but cannot excu...
