Bulldog Bulletin - 3/27/2026

TERM 3 END Term 3 ends on April 9. Teachers may close grades before or after that date, so pay attention to classroom announcements or ask the teacher directly if there are questions about which term an assignment or test will fall under. Check Aspen to ensure your grades are where you expect them to be and ask your teacher about any missing work or makeup work needed.  If you think you're all set,  double check   to be sure! ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL - PAJAMA DAY Student Council would like to thank everyone who donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. South raised over $2,000 in this year's fundraiser!  Donations will still be accepted online , or students can bring in cash or checks on Monday. Shout out to Allie R., Reese W., Quinn L., and Aurora R. who organized their own neighborhood bake sale yesterday and raised $305 for St. Jude's! Congratulations to the 5th grade who raised the most of all grades: $794.          C...

Grade 8 Upcoming Events

Grade 8 Students & Caregivers: Next week, your child is scheduled to participate in an MCAS grade 8 Civics field test on Monday, 6/3 and Tuesday, 6/4. In order to administer a new grade 8 Civics test in the future, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must try out new test questions before the test becomes operational and scores can be provided to parents, schools, and districts. Your child’s participation is important and allows the state to build a valid and reliable test by helping to ensure a representative sample of students from across the state.   On Monday, 6/10, the 8th grade is taking the annual end-of-year trip to Level99 in Natick. Please make sure you have filled out the Level99 waiver  AND  the school's online permission slip in ParentSquare in order to participate. Contact a team teacher with any questions. Grade 8 Appreciation Night will be held at South on Thursday, 6/13, beginning at 6:00 PM. Families and loved ones are invited to joi...

Bulldog Bulletin - Week of April 1st

There will be no Homework Lab today or afterschool help, due to our April Staff Meeting. Play rehearsal will go on as scheduled, and we return to the regular afterschool schedule tomorrow. April's PTO meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/11, starting at 7pm in the South Media Center. (Please note: this is a change from the previously posted date.) Agenda will be sent next week. The sooner you get tickets into the raffle, the more chances you'll have to win! MCAS testing starts this week and continues for the next 2 months. See full schedule: 8th grade parents who missed the Informational Night at Braintree High a few weeks ago: the slideshow is linked here. Term 3 ends this Friday, 4/5 . Make sure all work is up to date and let your teachers know if anything doesn't appear to line up in Aspen. Report cards will be sent h...

South Cinco - 5/16

Five from South! As you may have heard by now, internet access in the District crashed again this morning during our rescheduled MCAS tests. Service has been restored, and we are anticipating concluding the 8th grade Math MCAS Session on Wednesday morning, as well as make-up exams in 6th and 7th grade.  Our May PTO meeting will be held at South on Wednesday night, in the Media Center from 6-7pm. See the attached agenda. Braintree Public Schools' Artstravaganza kicks off tonight at Braintree High. The Music Festival runs from 4-8pm outside BHS and the ArtFest gala will run inside from 5:30-7:30pm. We wish the best of luck to our musical performers, and offer congratulations to our visual artists whose work was selected for the art show! (The ArtFest will also have gallery hours this Thursday from 3:30-5:00pm.) The celebrated BHS Dance Team held an informational meeting afterschool in our Gym for any 8th graders interested in auditioning in the fall. The also-honored BHS Cheer Team w...

Wednesday Woof - South Springtime Events

We start the next bloc of state-mandated MCAS testing this week with the Mathematics exams. 8th graders will complete the "Science, Technology & Engineering" exam later this month. Throughout the month, each grade will also enjoy some Team Day activities for team-building as we move into the final phase of this school year! It's a busy time of year, so here are some important dates. South Community Service Club is running our Spring Collection Drive for the Braintree Food Pantry, now through next Friday, 5/12.  The Food Pantry is particularly looking for cleaning supplies, but we'll collect any new, unopened items such as non-perishable foods as well. Let's support our neighbors! Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week, May 8-12.  The South PTO is collecting money donations and gift cards to celebrate our faculty and staff. We also encourage you help your child write a note of gratitude to a favorite teacher--or teachers or other staff members--who have had an ...

South Cinco - short week, MCAS, and gratitude!

(1.) The South PTO's next meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/13, at 6:00 PM in the Media Center. Agenda to follow. (2.) Tomorrow, we will begin MCAS testing for 6th graders, with 7th and 8th grade testing next week.  Please make sure chromebooks are fully charged overnight. If you have a school-issued loaner, that will be your testing device. If you bring a personal device, you will receive a daily loaner chromebook in homeroom to test on. Students will be asked to put cell phones, smartwatches, ebooks, etc. at the front of the classroom during testing. Even better, leave them at home or in lockers, please! You may send your child with a few mints or hard candies to help keep them motivated and  lightly  energized throughout testing, but  please  don't send them with a 5-pound bag! Please make sure they have a free reading book as well, for when they have completed testing daily. Students in other grades will be expected to help maintain a quiet environment whi...

Wednesday Woof - March 8th

Today is Midterm for Term 3.  Teachers will be grading materials and updating midterm averages over the next week. Please check Aspen and Google Classroom now to see if anything is missing, or if there are any low grades that are eligible for retakes, and your child should make plans with their teacher to stay after if necessary. Class averages will be up-to-date as of midterm by next Wednesday, 3/15. 8th Graders' Course Selection Sheets for Grade 9 are due Friday!  Thank you to everyone who has already returned your yellow "course requests" sheet that was mailed home. If you need a new copy, please come to the Main Office to get a print out. Any questions, please contact your Guidance Counselor.  Even if you're not planning to attend Braintree High in the fall, you  must  return your course selection sheet; all high schools request those to start their own scheduling process.  6th and 7th graders' course selection sheets will be mailed home later this mont...

South Cinco - Thursday, 10/13

(1.)  BASHY and the Partnership are bringing "Taylor's Message" to Braintree High  tonight  at 6:30pm-8:00.   I  highly  recommend parents make time to come hear this very impactful story as you prepare for your kids' move through middle school and into the real pressures and challenges of teenagerhood and high school. (Older/mature students may be prepared to attend, but it's not recommended for most middle school students due to the content, which can be very emotional. High school aged kids are welcome to join adults.)  All caring adults are invited!  If you sign in and let them know you've got a middle school aged child at home, you'll be able to pick up a homework pass for your Braintree middle schooler... that should sweeten the pot a bit!  Please,  tell your neighbors, friends from other towns or private schools: this message should be heard by everyone who knows and loves a teenager or preteen. (2.)  SOUTH PTO   Kickoff...
