Two-fer Tuesday - a celebration & something spicy

This Two-fer Tuesday, South Middle brings you one BIG celebration, and something to spice up your day tomorrow! FOND FAREWELL Today, we congratulate Mrs. Sullivan, who is retiring from teaching after a long career in the Braintree Public Schools. Anyone who has had Mrs. Sullivan as your teacher, or as your child's teacher--or as a colleague!--knows the commitment and passion she brings to helping each child in her class grow over the course of the school year. She always keeps in mind the individual in every child and considers what they will need to be successful in life. Recognizing her care and concern for them, along with her high expectations to bring out their best, Mrs. Sullivan's students dedicated a display board in her honor during Teacher Appreciation Week. Exemplifying her humble service to her students, she is departing without any fanfare today, ending the school year a bit earlier than planned to take care of some medical necessities. All the South Bulldogs are ...

The South staff felt well loved being treated by everyone with baked goods, sweet treats, savory snacks, and special occasions! The Student Council used their proceeds from Boston Sports Day to keep the love going this Monday, laying out a Trail Mix Bar in the Teachers' Room!

Welcome Back Woof!

We hope all our Bulldogs enjoyed the April Break and found opportunities for fun as well as some refreshing relaxation! We have a long week ahead of us, but it's hard to believe that Friday will already be May! This Thursday, April 30, is an early dismissal day for students. Middle schools will dismiss at 11:45 AM.  Student Council is holding a Boston Sports Spirit Day to raise money for students to show their staff appreciation next week during Teacher Appreciation Week!  South PTO is holding a dine-out fundraiser to support the PTO mission at Jake N Joe's this Thursday, 4/30.  On early dismissal days, lunch is not served in school, but students can still access a complimentary lunch by ordering a Grab-N-Go bagged lunch in advance. Don't forget to pick up your lunch at dismissal!

Technology Tip - Aspen Alerts!

Did you know... You can set up your Aspen account to alert you when your child has a low grade posted in any class? Set up Notifications in your Aspen account settings and never have to worry about a surprise on the report card again! Follow the instructions below to set up email notifications for your parent account on Aspen. It is recommended to set the grade threshold to 60% to alert you to any failing grades.  You may also choose to set the grade threshold to 70% for 7th/8th graders and to 75% for 5th/6th graders, so you will know if your child has received a poor grade or may be eligible to improve their score by completing a retake or submitting corrections.  See below for guidance on setting up Aspen email notifications (from the  BPS Tech Department Aspen FAQ site ).  If you have any questions about your child's academic progress, don't hesitate to contact their Guidance Counselor or the Main Office.  It's always best to reach out directly to their teach...

South Cinco - Monday, 3/9/2026

Here are 5 things to think about as we start the week!  (1.) South PTO meets this Wednesday evening at 7pm in the South library media center. Please see attached agenda. (2.) The Student Council is helping to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for this year's annual PJ Day! This will be South's 3rd year raising money through a Pajama Day for this amazing cause. It was a huge success last year, raising over $2,000! The PJ Day will be Friday, March 27.  We are asking that if students would like to wear their PJ's, to bring in a suggested donation of $1-5 anytime from now until 3/27. We will be collecting money by grade to see which grade can donate the most! There is also an option to donate online. Please put your child's name and grade when you donate.  Link:   https://fundraising.stjude.org/site/TR?px=9160989&fr_id=162728&pg=personal (3.)   Tickets are now on sale for the three performances of our annual  South on Stage ...

NO SCHOOL - Monday, 26 January 2026

There will be NO SCHOOL in Braintree Public Schools on Monday, January 26th, 2026, due to the ongoing snowstorm. When school gets cancelled, there are 2 important things to remember at South Middle School: We skip that day of the cycle.  1/26 was scheduled to be a Day 6. We will skip day 6 this cycle, and plan to follow a  Day 1  schedule on Tuesday, 1/27.  We add one day to the calendar in June.  The last day of school is currently projected to be Thursday, 6/18, due to this cancellation. Good news for us that our new South building has air conditioning! There are also a few unique considerations with the close of school tomorrow: 1/26 was the last day of term 2 (the 2nd quarter of the school year) and the last day of semester 1 (the first half of the school year).  Semester 2 is still scheduled to begin on Tuesday, 1/27.  This means some students may have a slight change to their schedule if they have any semester-long courses, such as Health or 1/2-...

Bulldog Bulletin - 1/14/2026

South PTO will meet tonight at 7:00 PM in the Media Center.  See you there! TRAFFIC Although the winter cold seems to be giving us a bit of a break, next week is predicted to be a return to familiar frigid temperatures, and we can predict that traffic will see a corresponding increase. Let's start the New Year off right by following the procedures for dropping off & picking up students: When dropping off in the morning:   Pull all the way to the end of the driveway loop. 3 cars can fit after the crosswalk!  Students should unload from cars as soon as you're over the speed bump (or further back!). This allows 10 cars to unload at once and will speed all traffic through the driveway. You  can  pull ahead in the lefthand lane if you're done, but you  must  go slowly and allow other cars to enter. Also, check over your shoulder before pulling away from the curb in case anyone else is proceeding on the left. Do not use neighboring streets (or driveways!...
