Getting Ready for the First Day

 We are so excited to see students returning to South tomorrow or starting with us for the first time!

ARRIVAL - Starts at 7:42 AM; school starts at 8:02 daily! 
Tomorrow, students should report to these locations upon arrival at South:

• Grade 5 - Cafeteria
• Grade 6 - Small Gym
• Grade 7 - Large Gym
• Grade 8 - Large Gym

Homerooms will be posted in the entrances and homeroom teachers will meet students to bring their group upstairs.

BREAKFAST SERVED DAILY! All Massachusetts are entitled to one complimentary breakfast and one complimentary lunch daily. Students who want breakfast tomorrow morning can eat it in the Cafeteria and then proceed to your grade's meeting area. 

GET READY TONIGHT!
(1.) Lay out your first day outfit tonight to make your morning a little smoother. Please review the Middle School Dress Codebelow to avoid any issues with the school expectations. 

A lot of growth happens over the summer months; please try on all your clothes before planning to wear them to school! The shorts that looked so great in June or the t-shirt that fit fine at a summer barbecue may not be the right fit this September for the classroom. Try it on, and if you have any doubts, ask a trusted adult if your clothing is school-appropriate.

(2.) Pack your backpack and put it by the door, or in a prominent spot where you can't miss it. This will be a good habit throughout the school year to help ensure you remember your homework and any supplies you may need.
(3.) Set an alarm. Don't have an alarm clock? It is highly recommended to get one. A lot of people use their cell phones as an alarm clock. That's a fine option during the day, but cell phones do not belong in adolescents' beds or on their night table! The chirps and alerts throughout the night will disrupt their sleep. Establish a charging station for the family's devices away from the bedroom!

DRIVERS - Please take note of the new traffic pattern at South

• Peach St will be open for traffic tomorrow, but road work continues. If at all possible, please arrive to South via Liberty St! 
• Pull through the old South, new Highlands-on-Peach driveway and turn right to enter the South driveway loop. Only buses are allowed in the lower lot and on Kenmore Rd during drop-off and pick-up

BRAINTREE SECONDARY SCHOOL DRESS CODE

The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and their adult caregivers.

Allowable Dress

• Students must wear clothing including both a shirt and pants/skirt (or the equivalent) and shoes.

• Shirts, pants, and dresses must have fabric in the front, back, and on the sides.  Clothing must cover undergarments, private areas, and the midriff and navel.

• Headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff. A student’s eyes and ears must be visible to staff at all times. Hats, hoods, and sunglasses are not allowed without specific permission.

• Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, and other activities where unique hazards exist. Specialized courses or events may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms, concert attire, or safety gear.

Non-Allowable Dress

• Clothing may not depict, advertise, or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, marijuana/cannabis, or other controlled substances.

• Clothing may not depict or describe pornography, nudity, or sexual acts.

• Clothing may not use or depict hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, religious affiliation, or any other protected groups.

• Clothing must not threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff. If the student’s attire threatens the health or safety of any other person, then discipline for dress violations should be consistent with discipline policies for similar violations.
