TERM 3 END Term 3 ends on April 9. Teachers may close grades before or after that date, so pay attention to classroom announcements or ask the teacher directly if there are questions about which term an assignment or test will fall under. Check Aspen to ensure your grades are where you expect them to be and ask your teacher about any missing work or makeup work needed.  If you think you're all set,  double check   to be sure! ST. JUDE CHILDREN'S RESEARCH HOSPITAL - PAJAMA DAY Student Council would like to thank everyone who donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. South raised over $2,000 in this year's fundraiser!  Donations will still be accepted online , or students can bring in cash or checks on Monday.   Here are 5 things to think about as we start the week!  (1.) South PTO meets this Wednesday evening at 7pm in the South library media center. Please see attached agenda. (2.) The Student Council is helping to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for this year's annual PJ Day! This will be South's 3rd year raising money through a Pajama Day for this amazing cause. It was a huge success last year, raising over $2,000! The PJ Day will be Friday, March 27.  We are asking that if students would like to wear their PJ's, to bring in a suggested donation of $1-5 anytime from now until 3/27. We will be collecting money by grade to see which grade can donate the most! There is also an option to donate online.   We are immensely proud of our 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Christine Norris, who was honored last night at the Norfolk County Teachers' Association annual awards ceremony. Mrs. Norris was nominated by her colleagues for the NCTA Honor Award, saying:  Christine’s contributions to South are immeasurable. She is the type of person who, if she’s going to do something, she’s going to take the time to do it right. This year alone, she’s co-running the Grade 8 Washington, D.C. trip, co-creating the Yearbook, co-creating the Field Day Murder Mystery activity, co-running the South dance, and co-running the South Student Council, which this year was combined with the Community Service club because, you guessed it, she runs that, too! When you ask her about running all of these things, she humbly downplays her involvement.   (1.)  Student Council's Spirit Week has added a lot of fun to this 3 1/2 day week! Tomorrow is Race Day so let's see everyone's Track & Field gear!  In keeping with Student Council's commitment this year to supporting local charities, they are collecting donations tomorrow to support Mrs. Lavey's Falmouth Road Race fundraiser. She will be pushing her newborn daughter in the roadrace, and these 2 ladies are dedicating their run & all proceeds to Marisa's Mission. Springtime in a middle school is an exciting period full of field trips & culminating projects. Between celebrations & state testing, student schedules get tinkered with and tweaked on a seemingly nonstop basis. Although the end of the school year is looming in everyone's mind--and especially on the sunny, hot days-- we still have over 10% of the school year left.  Please make every effort to arrive at school on time in the morning  by 8:02 , to schedule appointments outside of school hours, and to avoid early dismissals from school. Beyond teachers' academic goals for their classes and the social growth events that make lifelong memories for our kids, it reinforces to good habits to be on time and present at school throughout the day.  If you do have to report an absence ,  please email the school nurses or call the Main Office to let us know.  A medical note is required for an absence to be excused and a provider's office will give you that at the time...

January is always a busy time in the life of a middle school. It's a long month and everyone's spending more time indoors, so teachers find they can really get into a lot of material in these weeks. It's important to stay healthy and try to stay caught up on all classwork so nobody falls behind! To that end, we're hearing a lot of sniffles and coughs in classrooms and teachers are desperate for supplies for healthy classrooms.  (1.)  Please consider sending your child in with a box of tissues for the classroom.
