Welcome to South's 2026-2027 School Year


Happy New Year, Bulldogs!

The first day of school is Wednesday, September 2nd, and we are excited to see all our returning students and get to know the newest members of our community. On the first day of school, homeroom assignments will be posted by the entrances, and homeroom teachers will meet students to bring everyone upstairs to begin the day. We will extend homeroom to go over the new materials for the new school year, but by midmorning students will start switching classrooms to meet their new teachers!

Students go to lockers and homeroom: 7:52 AM
Carpoolers & students being dropped off should plan to arrive at school at 7:45 daily. Walkers/riders should aim for 7:50 daily.

Riding to School

Students may ride e-bikes, scooters/e-scooters, inline skates, skateboards, etc. to school, but must follow all rules and regulations set forth by the Town of Braintree and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Students must wear a helmet, fastened.
  • BPS is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged vehicles. We recommend families purchase their own lock and secure their bike daily. Bike racks are available at the main entrance and gym entrance.
  • E-bikes/-scooters may be driven to school, but must be turned off & walked on school property. Students must park e-bikes in designated areas & may not access them again until they are leaving school for the day. At the end of the school day, students must walk their e-bikes off school property before riding.
Failure to abide by school rules may result in disciplinary actions and loss of privileges.

Drop-Off and Pick-Up: drivers & carpoolers

With the arrival of Highlands on Peach to the old South building at 232 Peach, the traffic pattern at South has changed.
  • All traffic should arrive at the driveway loop for 232 Peach (HOP), drive slowly, and turn right to continue in the traffic loop to 220 Peach (South Middle).
  • Pull all the way to end of our driveway loop to begin unloading. Student dropoff begins immediately after the speed bump, and students should walk down to the main entrance.
  • Do not use neighboring streets for vehicle drop off. Police monitor Celia Rd, Richard Rd, Kenmore Rd, etc. for unauthorized school traffice. Be a good neighbor!
  • No student drop-off or pick-up in the bus loop, staff parking area, or lower lot is permitted.

IDs and Login Credentials

Students will use their ID badge that was issued last year.
  • New students and 5th graders will receive new IDs
  • Replacement badges can be requested in the Main Office and cost $5
If you forgot your Aspen login, click "Trouble logging in?" to request a reset, but you'll have to be patient while many requests are filled! (New students and 5th graders will get login information once the school year has begun. Please don't request a password early.)

Locks & Lockers

Students will be assigned a locker and lock on the first day of school. You may not use a lock from outside the school.
Students may not carry backpacks during the school day for security reasons. You should keep personal items secured in your locker at all times.
Do not share your lock combination or computer passwords with anyone at any time!

Back-to-School Supplies

  • You do not need everything on the first day, but make sure you have something to write on and something to write with.
  • Classroom donations are welcome throughout the school year!
We received donations of stocked backpacks from the Weymouth/Braintree Elks & Marge Crispin Center. If you are in need of a backpack, school supplies, or other materials, please contact Principal Rainie

Summer Assignments

If you have not completed your Summer Assignments, there is still time, but you will need to buckle down! If you completed them earlier this summer, make sure you know where you put them, so you'll be ready for the first day of school!

Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! Trivia Night Woof - 4/28

  (1.) 7th grade Earth models adorn our hallways year-round! (2.) We're looking forward to the return of Trivia Night at South this evening! For those who have signed up, please  arrive at 6:00pm.  Trivia Night is expected to be  over at 8:15pm  (a slight adjustment from the previously-mentioned 8:45) for anyone carpooling.  Wear costumes and bring your vast knowledge! (3.)  The next PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, 5/3, at 7:00 PM. Agenda to follow. (4.)  Check out the April drone footage showing progress of the construction of the new South Middle School!    With the holiday season upon us, there are several ways  you can support South Middle School South is always looking for fundraising opportunities that allow folks to shop as you normally would  and  support South, earning commissions at no cost to you , our community of supporters. With the holiday shopping season upon, there are some easy ways to benefit the school without much additional hassle! Box Tops for Education Purchasing a lot of groceries for the upcoming feast? Scan your receipts to see if any qualify for Box Tops! The Box Tops program no longer requires you to clip and collect the actual, paper box tops. Instead, you can  download the app on your cellphone  and scan your receipt after any grocery shopping trip. I've also found it's worth scanning my receipt after a trip to most pharmacies and "big box" department stores, just in case!
