South Cinco: 5 ways to support South this holiday shopping season

With the holiday season upon us, there are several ways you can support South Middle School

South is always looking for fundraising opportunities that allow folks to shop as you normally would and support South, earning commissions at no cost to you, our community of supporters. With the holiday shopping season upon, there are some easy ways to benefit the school without much additional hassle!

Box Tops for Education

Purchasing a lot of groceries for the upcoming feast? Scan your receipts to see if any qualify for Box Tops! The Box Tops program no longer requires you to clip and collect the actual, paper box tops. Instead, you can download the app on your cellphone and scan your receipt after any grocery shopping trip. I've also found it's worth scanning my receipt after a trip to most pharmacies and "big box" department stores, just in case! You'll find out immediately if any of your purchases qualify for a commission for South, and those cents add up quickly! All proceeds go to South PTO.

Bookshop.org
If you're buying books online but also like to support brick-and-mortar bookstores, use South's Bookshop.org link to purchase books. This organization supports local booksellers as well as nonprofits, and we're pleased to be part of their Associates program, so our community can support South without any additional cost on the price of your purchases and help keep local businesses operating! Funds raised go to book purchases & other media, usually to support staff professional growth or to provide classroom copies of books.

Scholastic Book Fair
From Monday-Friday, Dec. 8-12, South is hosting our annual Scholastic Book Fair. Come on by from 7:45 AM through 3:00 PM daily to pick up gifts that are perfectly selected for your child's age and reading skill. All proceeds directly benefit the South Library Media Center and teachers' classroom libraries.
You can shop online from Monday 12/8 through Friday 12/21: Scholastic.com. You can also go to this site any time to set up an e-Wallet with funds for your child to spend when their class visits the Book Fair during school.

Five Below

Perfect for stocking stuffers or smaller gift items, Five Below has all sorts of fun items our middle schoolers are looking for! On Friday 12/5 and Saturday 12/6, if you show the attached flier to the cashier, a portion of your sale will be credited to the South PTO. Similar to a "Dine Out" event, this adds no cost to you and easily benefits the PTO! Get all your stocking stuffers or Yankee Swap gifts now!

Regifting!
Did you get a gift card you'll never use? Do you have some sitting in a drawer gathering dust? Consider donating unused gift cards to the South PTO for a student or staff raffle prize, or to be used in a Calendar Raffle prize basket. The April Calendar Raffle is South PTO's big springtime fundraiser, so any unwanted gifts would make a great donation! Email southmiddle.pto@gmail.com with any questions or items to donate.

Thank you for
taking care of your school!

Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! All 8th grade Veterans Projects will be on display in the Media Center on Friday, 6/6, for the public to view and explore our students' research. If you're looking for an e...

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers. Don't forget! Bus registration ends next Friday, 6/13.  See the Districtwide post for bus registration information. Please check the Yearbook Sales list posted at your homeroom entrance.  If anyone thinks they purchased a y...
