Bulldog Bulletin - 1/14/2026

South PTO will meet tonight at 7:00 PM in the Media Center. See you there!

TRAFFIC
Although the winter cold seems to be giving us a bit of a break, next week is predicted to be a return to familiar frigid temperatures, and we can predict that traffic will see a corresponding increase. Let's start the New Year off right by following the procedures for dropping off & picking up students:
  • When dropping off in the morning:
    • Pull all the way to the end of the driveway loop. 3 cars can fit after the crosswalk!
    • Students should unload from cars as soon as you're over the speed bump (or further back!). This allows 10 cars to unload at once and will speed all traffic through the driveway.
    • You can pull ahead in the lefthand lane if you're done, but you must go slowly and allow other cars to enter. Also, check over your shoulder before pulling away from the curb in case anyone else is proceeding on the left.
    • Do not use neighboring streets (or driveways!) to drop off.
  • When picking up in the afternoon:
    • Please pull down to the front as cars pull away.
    • Students may walk up along the sidewalk to get in cars in the loop, or they can cross to the island to get in cars parked in the parking lot. DO NOT let your children cross to the island and then cut across the driveway loop. They should only cross in crosswalks, please!
    • You may choose to park in the lots around the old South building and have your child walk to your car. Please do not use Kenmore Rd, so buses have access; use the exit to Peach St. Please do not park on side streets and restrict traffic for neighbors.
The best way to ease traffic is to carpool! Talk to your neighbors & friends to see if you can help reduce the traffic to our tiny campus by ride-sharing.
Of course, we always recommend students should walk or ride to school if they live close enough. Stay fit & support healthy independence! Reach out to neighbors & friends to coordinate a time to walk together.

STUDENT I.D.S
This fall, all students were issued a school ID with their name, photo, and a barcode to identify them. This barcode can be scanned in the Cafeteria, getting on & off the bus, and in the school library to check out books. We have just added a barcode scanner to the front office kiosk to help streamline the check-in process when any student arrives late to school. If you're part of the 8:02 late arrival, please have your student ID ready so you can scan it and get to your locker without missing any class time! If you have lost your student ID, a replacement copy can be requested in the Main Office with a $5 replacement fee.

LIBRARY NEWSLETTER
Thanks to Ms. Angela Nguyen for preparing the Library Media Center Newsletter every month!
STRATEGIC PLANNING COMMITTEE
Braintree Public Schools is seeking interested candidates to join the Strategic Plan Committee as we work together to create an updated plan for the coming years. This committee plays a critical role in shaping the vision, priorities, and long-term direction of our organization, and we value the perspectives and expertise that all participants will bring to this work. Committee members will collaborate with educators and stakeholders to provide input, review key initiatives, and help guide the development and implementation of the strategic plan. Participation offers an opportunity to contribute to meaningful system-level planning and to ensure that district voices are reflected in future decisions. Please submit interest by this Thursday January 15th at 5pm: Strategic Planning Committee Interest Form

FACILITIES MASTER PLAN
Have you shared your opinion about the schools' facilities yet? Check out the Facilities Master Plan website to see what's going on, and make sure to contribute your opinion on the Facilities Plan Survey!

Term 2 ends on January 26th. Teachers will have a week to complete grading, so students should check their Aspen to ensure they're not missing anything crucial. Schedule time after school with your teacher for retakes, make-ups, or extra help!

Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! All 8th grade Veterans Projects will be on display in the Media Center on Friday, 6/6, for the public to view and explore our students' research. If you're looking for an e...

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers. Don't forget! Bus registration ends next Friday, 6/13.  See the Districtwide post for bus registration information. Please check the Yearbook Sales list posted at your homeroom entrance.  If anyone thinks they purchased a y...
