Springtime in a middle school is an exciting period full of field trips & culminating projects. Between celebrations & state testing, student schedules get tinkered with and tweaked on a seemingly nonstop basis. Although the end of the school year is looming in everyone's mind--and especially on the sunny, hot days--we still have over 10% of the school year left. Please make every effort to arrive at school on time in the morning by 8:02, to schedule appointments outside of school hours, and to avoid early dismissals from school. Beyond teachers' academic goals for their classes and the social growth events that make lifelong memories for our kids, it reinforces to good habits to be on time and present at school throughout the day.
- If you do have to report an absence, please email the school nurses or call the Main Office to let us know. A medical note is required for an absence to be excused and a provider's office will give you that at the time of your appointment.
- If you must dismiss your child from school, please make every effort to schedule that dismissal to occur between periods to minimize disruptions in classrooms.
- Dismissal times: 8:54, 9:41, 10:28, 11:15, 12:51, 1:38
- You will need to come to the front office to sign your child out. Students arriving late or returning to school can sign themselves in.
Traffic Notice: Braintree Police and Town Hall shared concerns with me about people dropping students off in the dead end of Celia Rd for students to walk in. Please be considerate of South's neighbors. There is no reason to pull into a dead end & turn around in someone's driveway, when your child could easily walk up the end of Celia Rd. and onto campus. More to the point, please don't treat neighbors yards and driveways as part of South's traffic plan. If everyone is using the school driveway and showing courtesy to one another as we all try to get into & out of the school, things will move much more smoothly. Police will be monitoring the situation off school grounds.
As the weather warms up, it's important to remember the Middle School Dress Code, which is attached below for your convenience. We don't notice our kids' growth day-to-day, but it is strongly advised to try on clothing from last year before planning to wear it to school, as you may have outgrown your favorite outfit over the past 8 months, and nobody wants to start their day dealing with that drama!
Midterm for term 4 was 5/15 and all grades should be up-to-date in Aspen by tomorrow. Please make sure to contact your teacher if your grade isn't where you want it to be, or to talk with your guidance counselor. Final report cards will be issued on the last day of school.
The Late Buses run Monday-Thursday for any student with a regular bus pass. You may use the Late Bus if you have stayed at South for extra help with a teacher or an extracurricular activity, including Homework Lab. The last day for the Late Bus will be 5/31.
