South Middle - Midterm 1

Midterm was last Friday and teachers have spent the week reminding students about any missing work, hosting makeup sessions, correcting assignments, and reviewing retake & corrections policies with them. As of today, all grades are up-to-date for midterm in Aspen.

Please log in and review your child(ren)'s grades with them.If anything is not where you expect it to be:
  1. The first conversation should be with your child. Help them to identify what went wrong and then to develop a plan to get back on track.
  2. You can then reach out to the teacher for more information if you have questions or concerns. It never hurts to let the teacher know if you've made a plan with your child to bring their grade up. It will help a teacher to be on the lookout for improvement, or possibly to remind your child if they're supposed to stay after school with them!
  3. If you have concerns over several classes or overall, you may want to contact your child's Guidance Counselor. They can gather information from the team and schedule a phone conference or meeting with you, or they can set up a meeting with the teacher team. Often, the counselor has insights about your child that will help, or can offer a few different tips for you to try at home.
If you are worried that your child may be spending too much time on homework or experiencing too much stress and anxiety about school and their assignments, please reach out. Just as we don't want any child to fail their classes or spend too little time on their coursework, it is also unhealthy to spend too much time or to fixate on unreasonable standards of success or perfection. A healthy balance in life is important!

Please see the linked schedule of teachers' after-school days, when they plan to stay until 3:15 PM for extra help. Your child should always let the teacher know if they're planning to stay after, just so the teacher knows to look out for them during the hubbub of dismissal.Parent-Teacher Conferences at South will be held in November, so now is the time to try out different strategies and see if your child can improve their academic standing before final grades are due for Term 1. You will receive information later this month to sign up for a teacher or team conference.

Of course, you can always reach out to school administration with any concerns as well at 781-380-0160.

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers. Don't forget! Bus registration ends next Friday, 6/13.  See the Districtwide post for bus registration information. Please check the Yearbook Sales list posted at your homeroom entrance.  If anyone thinks they purchased a y...

Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! All 8th grade Veterans Projects will be on display in the Media Center on Friday, 6/6, for the public to view and explore our students' research. If you're looking for an e...
