South Cinco - short week, MCAS, and gratitude!

(1.) The South PTO's next meeting will be held on Thursday, 4/13, at 6:00 PM in the Media Center. Agenda to follow.

(2.) Tomorrow, we will begin MCAS testing for 6th graders, with 7th and 8th grade testing next week.
  • Please make sure chromebooks are fully charged overnight. If you have a school-issued loaner, that will be your testing device. If you bring a personal device, you will receive a daily loaner chromebook in homeroom to test on.
  • Students will be asked to put cell phones, smartwatches, ebooks, etc. at the front of the classroom during testing. Even better, leave them at home or in lockers, please!
  • You may send your child with a few mints or hard candies to help keep them motivated and lightly energized throughout testing, but please don't send them with a 5-pound bag!
  • Please make sure they have a free reading book as well, for when they have completed testing daily.
Students in other grades will be expected to help maintain a quiet environment while their schoolmates are testing. This is not typical at South, where the teachers often keep kids busy with active and social learning! Please make sure everyone gets a good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and arrives on time, to set us all up for success in tolerating these disruptions!

(3.) This week is National Assistant Principals' Week! Please join me in giving a shoutout to the one-and-only Ms. Pagliarulo! If you've got a great memory of her, this is a good week to send an email or a note. If your child often regales you with the adventures of Ms. Pags, encourage them to send her a note or picture to share their appreciation. (4.) Yesterday was Paraprofessional Appreciation Day. Shoutout to our crack team of paras! South wouldn't be the same without Ms. Welch, Mr. Wanagel, Ms. Moline, Ms. McHugh, Mr. Maloney, Ms. Kenny, Mr. Donaher, Mr. Connors, Mr. Burkett, and Mr. Barrientos. Their expertise and caring are unparalleled!
(5.) There will be no Homework Club this Thursday afternoon, and there is no school on Friday, 4/7.

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers. Don't forget! Bus registration ends next Friday, 6/13.  See the Districtwide post for bus registration information. Please check the Yearbook Sales list posted at your homeroom entrance.  If anyone thinks they purchased a y...
