Tuesday Woof - 4/5

MCAS starts tomorrow for 6th grade.

(1.) No loaner devices will be available for student checkout on any testing days.
  • Students who have school-issued chromebooks: Please make sure to fully charge them & bring them to South on all testing dates! This is crucial in order for us to have enough devices for students taking the exams!
  • If your child needs a long-term loan of a school-issued loaner, please fill out a HelpDesk ticket to request one at https://www.braintreeschools.org/helpdeskDaily loaners should not be a long-term solution to a technology access problem!

(2.) Throughout the testing time for all grades, all students will be required to shut off their cell phones. Students who are taking MCAS will be required to put their cell phones away for the full testing period, including smart watches and other personal electronic devices. Please contact the Main Office if you have a message to deliver to your children during school hours. It is strongly recommended to have your child leave their smartwatch at home.

(3.) There will be a PTO meeting at South tonight, starting at 6:00 PM, in the Media Center. Please note, this is an earlier time than usual, in recognition of our families who are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan and need to be home by sundown to break fast. Agenda is attached.

(4.) Mount Lostandfound has erupted at South over the past few weeks of wild temperature changes. We've got sweatshirts, jackets, hats, and all the things you put on or remove when the sun suddenly bursts through, disappears, or a snow squall blows in.  Pick through it all in our front lobby! Take anything you recognize!! Unclaimed items will be donated over April Break.
(5.) Congratulations to Mrs. Flaherty and Mr. Brunstrom who won this week's Calendar Raffle prizes so far this week. In just 3 days of drawings, over $325 worth of prizes have gone out, including bonus prizes to the student who sold each winning ticket! You can still purchase/sell raffle tickets throughout the month of April, but the sooner you get them into our Main Office, the more chances you'll have to win! Ticket sheets are attached ($5 each, 3 for $12, or 6 for $20) or can be picked up in the Main Office.

Opening the new South building

After years of planning, design, and construction, South Middle School will open its doors on September 6, 2023 to 5th grade through 8th grade in our new building!  This week, teachers got permission to start coming in to set up classrooms, and they have been dodging construction and subcontractor crews for the past few days, preparing their rooms and adding their personal touch to make the brand new spaces ready for the students.  The energy throughout the building is downright gleeful as folks see the light-filled classrooms, spacious hallways, and state-of-art facilities that will be supporting our students’ learning and growth going forward. Of course, the faculty is always excited to welcome a new class of scholars every fall, but this year takes that sense of rebirth and limitless possibility to a whole new level!  As eager as we are to welcome students and families to the new building, it is not yet safe to open our doors to the public. The construction team is putting on the fi

Teachers assembled at South today for opening meetings and put the finishing touches on their classrooms while planning for the year ahead. We are so excited to have students arrive tomorrow! All bus riders should have received assignments by now. Bus passes will be handed out during the school day tomorrow and are students' "ticket to ride" for the afternoon, so make sure all accounts are paid! Students getting dropped off in the morning will come in the front door. Drivers: follow the yellow arrow below to come in our main driveway. At dropoff, pull all the way down to the end of the sidewalk in front of the building. Please be considerate of the other drivers while we all get used to the new driveway.  Do NOT follow the blue arrow; the old building's driveway will be closed all year.   Do NOT follow the orange, purple, or red arrows.
