Woof - 13 June 2019

Feedback from the early responses to the South Poll make it very clear that parents & guardians appreciate the updates in the Woof and miss it when I don’t send one… So, here it is!  We’ve got a busy final few days coming, so this is a good time to get a Woof into your in-boxes!  If you haven’t filled out this year’s South Poll yet, please take this opportunity to do so: https://forms.gle/tUVohn9SvnU6vJ7MA.

Eighth grade students enjoyed the opportunity to show off their Veterans Projects this Thursday.  A number of local veterans came in to see the students’ hard work on display and to speak to kids about their research and interviews.  One gentleman remarked to me what how important it was to him, after the GIs returning from Vietnam faced so many personal attacks at home, to have young people asking about their stories and honoring the soldiers’ sacrifices.  We’re proud of their efforts!
Friday, 6/14, will be the 8th grade Science Fair, with the theme of “Do One Thing.”  Students have been studying human interactions with the environment and developing ideas to reduce harmful impacts and promote sustainable living.  Projects have included raising awareness about recycling, energy use, and fossil fuels; contacting local authorities to restore the school’s right to recycle plastic bottles; raising plants and planting a tree on school grounds; and up-cycling items for the home and garden!  Come see what they’ve been up to!

WASHINGTON DC TRIP 2020
Next year’s 8th grade trip to Washington, D.C. will be held 3/18-3/21.  All current 7th graders attended an assembly about the trip, which will be replacing all end-of-year field trips for next year’s class.  We are hopeful that all students will join us in DC, and there will be multiple fundraising opportunities next year to help manage the cost.  Go to the trip website—http://www.braintreeschools.org/southdc/—or follow them on Instagram for more information and to register with EF Tours.  The earlier you register, the sooner you can start making payments!

LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER
All South library books must be returned by the end of this week, or students will be billed for replacements.  See Ms. Vose (deborah.vose@braintreeschools.org) with any questions.  She also has copies of this year’s summer reading books if you are interested in borrowing a copy!

SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Students looking to extend their learning this summer can sign up for the Summer Enrichment Program!  Overseen by a teacher, work is completed through a series of online learning modules, and you will receive specific instruction and support as needed while you work your way through.  See the attached flyer for registration information!

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers. Don't forget! Bus registration ends next Friday, 6/13.  See the Districtwide post for bus registration information.
