Bulldog Bulletin - Wednesday, 11/20

Tomorrow is an early release day and dismissal for middle schools will be at 11:45 AM. We will follow a Day 6 schedule with shortened periods, so students should plan to see all of their classes. Welcome to Marc Quigley, the "second chair" School Nurse in our Health Office, who was appointed by the School Committee on Monday evening!

Do you have old magazines lying around the house, chock full of great photography & artwork? Send them in to South for use in our Art classrooms! Art teachers are always looking for visual models kids can use to inspire their creativity.

Want to earn some extra spending money for the holiday season? Got kids returning from campus or on the job market? The Braintree Public Schools District is always looking for substitute teachers and substitute paraeducators. With a number of young people returning home for the holidays, this is a great opportunity to apply to be a substitute. 
  • Apply online, get your paperwork filled out (CORI check, etc.), and schedule an interview with a principal at one of your old schools. 
  • Then, when you're back home next month, on spring break, or after classes end in May, you'll be able to sign up for sub jobs on our online portal and earn some extra spending money! 
As older siblings make plans to return home, send them the links to apply and tell them to email me or call to request an interview while they're in town. We'll be glad to have the extra hands "on deck" in December and we'd love to show off the new South to our alumni!

Did you know?
South Middle School can provide MBTA student passes for your child to get the student T fare and skip the initial fee for the Charlie Card. A parent/guardian can request a T pass from your Guidance Counselor or the Principal. We appreciate the MBTA's outreach to support students who participate in clubs & activities in the city and benefit from easy access to public transportation!

South Middle School was recently rated #74 out of 1,072 Massachusetts Middle Schools by U.S. News and World Report. That puts us in the 93rd percentile! This report is just one measure, and should be taken with a grain of salt of course, but it is nice to have our staff's efforts and good work recognized. Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! Trivia Night Woof - 4/28

  (1.) 7th grade Earth models adorn our hallways year-round! (2.) We're looking forward to the return of Trivia Night at South this evening! For those who have signed up, please  arrive at 6:00pm.  Trivia Night is expected to be  over at 8:15pm  (a slight adjustment from the previously-mentioned 8:45) for anyone carpooling.  Wear costumes and bring your vast knowledge!    With the holiday season upon us, there are several ways  you can support South Middle School South is always looking for fundraising opportunities that allow folks to shop as you normally would  and  support South, earning commissions at no cost to you , our community of supporters. With the holiday shopping season upon, there are some easy ways to benefit the school without much additional hassle! Box Tops for Education Purchasing a lot of groceries for the upcoming feast? Scan your receipts to see if any qualify for Box Tops! The Box Tops program no longer requires you to clip and collect the actual, paper box tops. Instead, you can  download the app on your cellphone  and scan your receipt after any grocery shopping trip. I've also found it's worth scanning my receipt after a trip to most pharmacies and "big box" department stores, just in case!
