Bulldog Bulletin - Wednesday Woof

Today is an Early Release Day with dismissal at 11:45am for middle schools. There will be no afterschool events while teachers attend a professional development workshop.

Tomorrow 10/26 is the final day to order South Gear from our online shop! Go to the South Spirit Wear Online Store and order; your items will be delivered straight to your home in time for the holidays

School Photo Retake Day will be November 1st! Any students who missed the first photo day or were not satisfied with your first photo will have the opportunity to have Hayward Photographers take your photo next Wednesday morning. If you ordered a photo package and want a retake, make sure to bring the original photos with you to exchange them!

Next Tuesday, 10/31, Student Council is hosting a Costume Contest. Participation is voluntary, but all who are interested can show off your spooky creativity! Please leave props at home & plan to wear masks/head coverings only during judging.
The Norfolk County Agricultural School is a hidden gem in our public vocational schools and Braintree 8th graders are eligible to apply. The students put on an amazing haunted hayride every year. Check it out this weekend; you will not be disappointed! You must purchase tickets in advancehttps://maingatetickets.com/events/view/1693Order today before they sell out! The Norfolk Aggie is located at 400 Main St./Route 1A, in Walpole.

Mark your calendars! The next South PTO Dine-Out is on Election Day, 11/7, at Papa Gino's in Tedeschi Plaza. Send your kids for lunch & order take away for dinner!

Speaking of Election Day, you can contribute in a variety of ways to the South PTO Polling Station Bake Sale:
  1. Donate a home-baked food item for sale - please package items for individual sale & make a note of any allergens or ideally list all ingredients!
  2. Donate a store-bought food item, drink choice (or money for PTO to purchase items for resale).
  3. Sign up to work the sales table on Election Day outside the new South Gym: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B054EA9A923ABFD0-45577293-souths. Adults or students are welcome (with at least one adult). This is a great way for a group of friends to give back to their school PTO and socialize!
Donated items can be dropped off in the South main entrance on Monday 11/6 or directly to the Bake Sale table on Election Day, 11/7.

Upcoming events from South PTO:
  • Throughout the week of 12/10-12/16, you'll be able to show a flyer when making any purchases at Five Below and they'll send the PTO a portion of the sale. This is a perfect opportunity to purchase your stocking stuffers, Yankee Swaps, and last-minute gifts! Flyer to follow.
  • On January 23rd school has an early release and PTO has a deal with Altitude trampoline park to share any admission fees from our supporters. More information to follow, but mark your calendar now to spend your long afternoon at the jump park on 1/23/2024!
  • The next PTO meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 28th, right after the Thanksgiving Break.

Wednesday Woof from South

We are immensely proud of our 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Christine Norris, who was honored last night at the Norfolk County Teachers' Association annual awards ceremony. Mrs. Norris was nominated by her colleagues for the NCTA Honor Award, saying:  Christine’s contributions to South are immeasurable. She is the type of person who, if she’s going to do something, she’s going to take the time to do it right. This year alone, she’s co-running the Grade 8 Washington, D.C. trip, co-creating the Yearbook, co-creating the Field Day Murder Mystery activity, co-running the South dance, and co-running the South Student Council, which this year was combined with the Community Service club because, you guessed it, she runs that, too! When you ask her about running all of these things, she humbly downplays her involvement. Don’t let her fool you--she’s one of the hardest-working teachers at South.  To be honest, even that extensive list of projects is incomplete; Mrs. Norris is...

Grade 8 Upcoming Events

Grade 8 Students & Caregivers: Next week, your child is scheduled to participate in an MCAS grade 8 Civics field test on Monday, 6/3 and Tuesday, 6/4. In order to administer a new grade 8 Civics test in the future, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must try out new test questions before the test becomes operational and scores can be provided to parents, schools, and districts. Your child’s participation is important and allows the state to build a valid and reliable test by helping to ensure a representative sample of students from across the state.   On Monday, 6/10, the 8th grade is taking the annual end-of-year trip to Level99 in Natick. Please make sure you have filled out the Level99 waiver  AND  the school's online permission slip in ParentSquare in order to participate. Contact a team teacher with any questions. Grade 8 Appreciation Night will be held at South on Thursday, 6/13, beginning at 6:00 PM. Families and loved ones are invited to joi...

Opening the new South building

After years of planning, design, and construction, South Middle School will open its doors on September 6, 2023 to 5th grade through 8th grade in our new building!  This week, teachers got permission to start coming in to set up classrooms, and they have been dodging construction and subcontractor crews for the past few days, preparing their rooms and adding their personal touch to make the brand new spaces ready for the students.  The energy throughout the building is downright gleeful as folks see the light-filled classrooms, spacious hallways, and state-of-art facilities that will be supporting our students’ learning and growth going forward. Of course, the faculty is always excited to welcome a new class of scholars every fall, but this year takes that sense of rebirth and limitless possibility to a whole new level!  As eager as we are to welcome students and families to the new building, it is not yet safe to open our doors to the public. The construction team is put...
