South is beyond proud of some inspiring members of our community today. Gavin Flynn, Marina Whitelaw, Sophia Whitelaw, Ella Wood, and Connor Flynn (a former Bulldog!) participated in the unveiling of the K9 Kitt Statue and the new Police Officer Memorial at the Braintree Police Department this morning. Inspired by the heroism of K9 Kitt for his service to the community and his courageous, tragic sacrifice on June 4, 2021, these young students developed a plan to raise funds to honor him. They set up meetings with Mayor Kokoros, the Braintree Police, K9 Kitt's handler Officer Cushing, and the Braintree Police Working Dog Foundation to get approval for their plan and support for their fundraising efforts--earning admiration from all these adults along the way! Fundraising for a project they felt so strongly about became a passion project and their dedication paid off, amassing $23,000, far beyond their initial goal. With these funds, the students' tireless efforts, and their thorough dedication to the cause, Gavin, Marina, Sophia, Ella, and Connor were able to bring their vision into reality. As Police Chief Cohoon said, "these students should be honored for being positive role models to their peers and community," and we couldn't agree more! Truly impressive!
