South Cinco from SMS PTO

Five items from your South PTO:

(1.) The February meeting of the South PTO is this Thursday, 2/6, at 7pm in the South Library Media Center. See agenda below.
(2.) All month long, you can support the South PTO by purchasing Dave & Buster's PowerCards online:(3.) Regift rally!  We are preparing for Teacher’s Appreciation week in April and currently accepting donations that we can include in our raffle!  Something we’ve done in the past is collect gift cards or unused gifts that people received over the holidays that they aren’t likely to use.  Of course we’re grateful for anything you’d like to donate, whether it’s a gift card to your business, tickets to a local sports game, a themed gift basket, or something else.  If you have something you’d like to donate, message us or comment below to coordinate.  We appreciate your support as always!

(4.) Join the South PTO Facebook group for all the latest updates! https://www.facebook.com/groups/southmiddleptogroup
(5.) We hope you're able to join us to discuss Jonathan Haidt's The Anxious Generation in the South Library Media Center tonight at 7pm! Even if you aren't reading the book (or listening), you can participate in the conversation! Tonight's segments of the book focus on the rise in adolescents' mental health struggles over the 2010s through today, and the effects of less unstructured play time in kids' childhood, starting with the Millenial generation and continuing through the Gen Z "Zoomers." Haidt adds data to these ideas, but any parent of a teen or tween certainly has a perspective to share on this! We're looking forward to discussing what this all means for our kids and developing ideas for how we can help them as a community.

Three-fer Thursday from South! 5/22/2025

Three from South: (1.) Tomorrow--Friday, 5/23--South will host our annual Memorial Day Assembly starting at 1:00 PM. 8th graders have been working hard to prepare their Veterans Projects and a group will present them while our entire school honors local veterans and the fallen heroes of our Armed Services.  Students are encouraged to  wear red, white & blue  to show your patriotic spirit for our veterans and honored guests.  There will be  no student dismissals after 1pm , as it is too disruptive to the memorial assembly.  This year's assembly will be held in the large Gym due to the nor'easter, but guests are still welcome! If you would like to attend the assembly, please enter through the Main Entrance to get a visitors sticker and then proceed down to the Gym. Mark your calendars! All 8th grade Veterans Projects will be on display in the Media Center on Friday, 6/6, for the public to view and explore our students' research. If you're looking for an e...
