South Cinco - Sunday edition, 6/4

Some important dates & deadlines this week:

  1. Last week was the South Spring Scholastic Book Fair. Online shopping is available until June 12th. This is a great opportunity to purchase your summer reading books (and any other beach reads!) while supporting the South Media Center. BPS Summer Assignments
  2. This Friday, 6/9 is the deadline to register for Bus Transportation for the 2023-2024 school year! An informational message was sent by the District on Friday, 5/26 regarding bus registration.
    • Students in grades 5 & 6 who live 2 miles or more from South will be eligible for free transportation, but need to register.

    • Students in all grades who live 1.5 miles from South are eligible for a bus, but need to register.

      • If you're in grade 7 or 8, there will be a $180 fee.

      • If you're in grade 5 or 6, the fee only applies if you live between 1.5-2.0 miles from South.

      • There is a family cap of $360.

      • Fees may be waived if you qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch fees.*
    • Students with transportation accommodations in their educational plans are eligible for free transportation but need to register.
    • If you have questions on your eligibility please contact bps.transportation@braintreeschools.org

    • Log into your Family Connection account to register. This Quick Reference Guide will help walk you through the process. If you have any issues with our online registration or accessing your Family Connection Portal, please submit a ticket to our Help Desk at www.braintreeschools.org/techhelp.

  3. South's Library/Media Center has stopped loaning out books for the school year. Please return any items that have been checked out ASAP, so we can organize the collection for our big move to the new building.**
  4. This Thursday, 6/8, will be the last day for Homework Club and Late Bus. Students can still make arrangements to stay after with a teacher, but will need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk/bike.
  5. Our Annual South Spring Musical opens next Friday, 6/9! The cast & crew for Matilda! the Musical are in Tech Rehearsals all week, putting the finishing touches on the show and tying it all together. Contact Producer Ms. Proulx for a chance at the very few remaining tickets.

* With lunches being provided free of charge for the past few years, a number of eligible families may not have applied for Free or Reduced Lunch fees. Registering can provide access to a number of resources, so if you are eligible you may want to apply by clicking below.
** If you have overdue items--even if you find very old overdue items--please be aware we don't charge late fees. We'll appreciate any found items being returned at any time! We recently had about a dozen textbooks, library books, and English books returned by a parent who was back in town after moving out of Braintree during the pandemic shutdown. We were so grateful they'd thought of us, and it was a nice chance to catch up on their high schooler's latest progress! If you're ever cleaning house and find school belongings, bring it on by!

Bulldog Bulletin - 6/3/2025

Congratulations to all the students that participated in the Trills and Thrills music festival this past Friday - your hard work and effort paid off! Your playing and love for music impressed one of the adjudicators so much that he wrote an email to our superintendent letting him know how much he appreciated South Middle School’s music program!  7th & 8th grade orchestra won gold and the 7th & 8th grade Band and Concert Choir both earned silver.  This Thursday, 6/5, is the last day for Late Bus this school year. Students can still stay after for extra help, but you’ll need to arrange for a ride home or plan to walk! Homework Lab also ends this Thursday, so if you plan to stay after, you’ll need to make plans with one of your teachers.
