Ways to Support South

With the holiday season upon us, there are several ways
you can support South Middle School!

1.    If you use Amazon.com for any online shopping, please consider clicking through a South link.  You will be directed to the regular Amazon site, but we will get a credit for referring you.  The link is also available on the school website.

2.    Benefit Mobile is a smartphone app that lets you share proceeds with a non-profit of your choice.  When you are out shopping and go to the register, open the app and see if that store participates.  If so, you can purchase a digital “gift card” for the price of whatever you’re buying and when the cashier rings it up, South gets a percentage of the cost.  It sounds complex, but I put it my phone and it is very easy!
·         For example, I went to Home Depot and purchased $74.98 worth of stuff. At the register, I wait for them to add tax and I can put in the exact amount.  Wait a few seconds while it purchases the “gift card” and then it gives me a bar code for the cashier to scan.  3% of the total cost goes back to South!
·         I went to Walmart and bought $66 worth of stuff.  They only sell set amounts, so I purchased a digital “gift card” for $50, and then put the balance on my credit card.  South gets a cut of the $50 through Benefit Mobile. (You could also buy a $100 gift card and keep the balance for the next trip.)
·         Other partners include Dunkin Donuts, Barnes & Noble, Target, Starbucks, Panera, Best Buy, AMC cinemas, and a bunch of clothing stores and stores at the South Shore Plaza.  Online shopping is even easier with the digital cards!

Amazon is also a partner on Benefit Mobile, so I can click through the South link and then use a Benefit Mobile card to make my purchases, and South gets TWO kickbacks… all at NO COST to me!  Download the app today and register South Middle School as your beneficiary!

3.    Go to GoodShop.com and look for online coupons.  Create an account and register “South Middle School” as the cause you support.  We’ll get a referral fee every time you use one of their online coupons and you’ll save some money on your shopping!  You can also use GoodSearch.com and South gets money for every Yahoo!-powered search you make, all at no additional cost to you.

4.    Use the Shoparoo app on your cell phone to snap a photo of your shopping receipts.  They send a promotional fee to South for purchases you’ve already made!

5.    Clip the Box Tops for Education and deliver them to the mailbox by South’s front door.  You can also use the new Box Tops for Education app and scan the receipts to scoop up “virtual” Box Tops!

Wednesday Woof from South

We are immensely proud of our 7th grade English teacher, Mrs. Christine Norris, who was honored last night at the Norfolk County Teachers' Association annual awards ceremony. Mrs. Norris was nominated by her colleagues for the NCTA Honor Award, saying:  Christine’s contributions to South are immeasurable. She is the type of person who, if she’s going to do something, she’s going to take the time to do it right. This year alone, she’s co-running the Grade 8 Washington, D.C. trip, co-creating the Yearbook, co-creating the Field Day Murder Mystery activity, co-running the South dance, and co-running the South Student Council, which this year was combined with the Community Service club because, you guessed it, she runs that, too! When you ask her about running all of these things, she humbly downplays her involvement. Don’t let her fool you--she’s one of the hardest-working teachers at South.  To be honest, even that extensive list of projects is incomplete; Mrs. Norris is...

Grade 8 Upcoming Events

Grade 8 Students & Caregivers: Next week, your child is scheduled to participate in an MCAS grade 8 Civics field test on Monday, 6/3 and Tuesday, 6/4. In order to administer a new grade 8 Civics test in the future, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must try out new test questions before the test becomes operational and scores can be provided to parents, schools, and districts. Your child’s participation is important and allows the state to build a valid and reliable test by helping to ensure a representative sample of students from across the state.   On Monday, 6/10, the 8th grade is taking the annual end-of-year trip to Level99 in Natick. Please make sure you have filled out the Level99 waiver  AND  the school's online permission slip in ParentSquare in order to participate. Contact a team teacher with any questions. Grade 8 Appreciation Night will be held at South on Thursday, 6/13, beginning at 6:00 PM. Families and loved ones are invited to joi...
